The Provost, Adeyemi College of Education Ondo, Dr. Samuel Akuntunde has charged the newly elected students’ union leaders of the institution to exhibit good behavior and avoid actions that can bring the name of the institution into disrepute.

He stated this during the inauguration of the union’s executives at the college campus recently.

The provost while acknowledging the role of the students’ union as an important stakeholder in the institution’s developmental process urged them to employ diplomacy and maturity in achieving their set goals and objectives.

He said, “Student’s unionism is not about unreasonable rascality and blind radicalism, but requires tact and maturity in the quest at achieving goals and objectives”.

The provost further reiterated that his administration will continue to provide conducive learning environment and boost the welfare of members of staff and students, while urging the students’ body to consider setting up a welfare fund that could help in cushioning negative effects of the harsh economic conditions being experienced by some indigent students.

He said, “The welfare fund idea if accepted could be managed by a board of trustees comprising personalities of proven integrity within the college community. This would serve as a financial lifeline for indigent students in the payment of school fees, medical and other pressing financial needs”.

Speaking further, the Dean, Student Affairs, (Dr.) Mrs Justina Ogboru described the election as an important landmark in the history of the institution stating that the election afforded every registered student of the institution to exercise their franchise as enshrined in the constitution of the students’ body.

Ogboru further stated that the introduction of one-time password was used to secure the election process and bolster students’ confidence in ensuring that the election was free and fair.

Ogboru further appreciated the college Management Information System (MIS) college management for providing technical aid, stating that the development assisted the DSA in organizing one of the best students’ union elections in the history of the institution.

She, however, urged the new Students’ Union Executives to embrace dialogue, consultation and shun rumour mongering, while admonishing them to partner with the DSA in its drives at advancing the progress of the institution.

Speaking, the new Student Union President, Banjo Oluwadamilare Seyi pledged to collaborate with the college’s management, while appealing for support and cooperation from the students of the institution, assuring that his administration would not disappoint them.
