Corp Member In Ekiti Partners NOA To End Stigmatization Against Ex-Convicts

A serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Ekiti State, Anuoluwa Balogun, is set to hold a one-day sensitization programme aimed at ending stigmatization of ex-convicts in the state.

The one-day event is aimed at addressing the psychological challenges ex-convicts face after their freedom from prison.

The programme tagged ‘Sensitization of the Public Against Stigmatization of Ex-Convicts’ is scheduled to hold on Wednesday, 18th May, 2022 at the Pensioners’ Hall, Old-Governor’s Office, Ado-Ekiti by 10:00am.

The Project Public Relations Officer, Precious Oham, in Ado-Ekiti, released this in a statement on Monday revealing that the event is in partnership with the National Orientation Agency (NOA), and the Nigerian Correctional Service, Ado-Ekiti custodial centre.

Highlight of the event include paper presentations on the theme, ‘The Prevention of Recidivism and Social Reintegration of Ex-Convicts’ by Comptroller Ojo, Ado-Ekiti Custodial Centre, Dr. Bukola Ajayi, Clinical Psychologist, Ekiti State University and Barrister Tosin Ayo, Principal Partner, Castles and Temples.

Notable dignitaries expected to grace the occasion include the NYSC Ekiti State Coordinator, Mary Nenna Chikezie, Director, NOA Ekiti State, Mrs. Olawunmi Famuyiwa, NUJ Chairman, Ekiti State Council, Comrade Rotimi Ojomoyela, among others.

The statement further added that the objective of the program is to mentor ex-convicts to desist from crime and to sensitize individuals on how to minimize the stigmatization of ex-convicts in the society.
