Popular broadcaster and owner of Agidigbo FM, Oriyomi Hamzat has cried out from police detention in Abuja expressing worries about his safety.
Hamzat, in a viral video apparently recorded and sent out from police detention in Abuja on Thursday explained how and why he was arrested.
His words “I have been arrested all because I am fighting for justice to prevail in the case of Mr Timothy Adegoke who was murdered at a hotel owned by Chief Rahman Adegoke Adedoyin in Osun State
“I am not a criminal; I am not at war with government. They just came and arrested me. Despite this, even if I get out of this predicament, I will still continue to do what I have been doing – fighting for the oppressed. I vow never to change.
“See me”, he said in the video, “I am complete, my legs, arms, head are intact. I am crying out because anything can happen. Anybody can poison the air, food or water. Nothing must happen to me. All my admirers should share this video.”
Earlier, the Nigeria Police Force gave a reason for the arrest of the talented broadcaster and journalist.
In a statement on Thursday, the police said Hamzat was arrested in connection with a case of cyberbullying without stating who was bullied.
The police’s reaction was contained in a statement by its spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, titled, ‘Oriyomi Hamzat was arrested by police with warrant – Force PRO’.
The police claimed that the Ibadan-based broadcaster ignored their invitation severally, stating that the broadcaster is under investigation.
The statement read, “The popular Ibadan-based broadcaster, Oriyomi Hamzat, was arrested in Ibadan today by our Force Intelligence Bureau operatives in connection with a case of Cyber Bullying under investigation
“Oriyomi’s arrest was sequel to his refusal to honour Police invitation severally, which prompted the police to secure a warrant for his arrest.
“We are looking into the petition written against him on his violation of the Cyber Crime Act, 2015, and necessary action will be taken to do justice in the matter. Further development will be communicated to you all.”
Meanwhile, PMParrot has gathered that members of Freelance and Independent Broadcasters Association of Nigeria (FIBAN) have been meeting to figure out the best way to get Oriyomi, who is a strong member of the association released.
