Ekiti Group Intensifies Campaign On Violence Against Women

A Non Governmental Organization, Balm in Gilead Foundation, BIGIF in conjunction with the National Democratic Institute (NDI) have initiated a campaign  to stop violence against Women in Politics (Stop-VAWIP) and to encourage women participation in politics.

Speaking, the Coordinator of the Ekiti Central Senatorial District for the organization, Miss Moyinoluwa Gold, stated that the essence of the training is to equip the participants on how to mobilize community women to come out to vote out during the state gubernatorial election on June 18th, 2022 across the five local government areas in the Ekiti Central Senatorial District of Ijero, Efon, Ado Ekiti, Ekiti West and Irepodun/Ifelodun.

Moyinoluwa Gold further added that the organization and the National Orientation Agency,(NOA) National Democratic Institute (NDI) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) are collaborating on how to train the community mobilizers across the five local government areas of Ekiti central.

She said, “We are training the mobilizers on how they will mobilize women in their communities, both old and young women to come out on the election day so that they can participate actively during the election day.

“They are team of five people in each of the local governments areas set to mobilize women and meet with the stakeholders in each local government areas and to encourage women to register for their permanent voters card”.

The coordinator added that part of the organization’s duties include reporting cases of electoral violence against women during the election, revealing  that the organization is making concerted effort in training women on effective use of communication in order to report electoral violence.
