English Championship side, Stoke City, are looking to offload Nigeria international, Peter Etebo ahead of the new season.

The 26-year-old midfielder, who has 12 months left on his deal at the club, has not played for the Potters since October 2019, having spent time on loan at Getafe, Galatasaray and Watford in the Premier League last season.

The Super Eagles midfielder is among the highest-paid players in the Championship and Stoke are desperate to take him off their budget, which has fallen considerably, ahead of the new campaign, according to Stoke City manager Michael O’Neil.

Speaking on Etebo’s future, O’Neil said, “I think we know that those players (Benik Afobe and Etebo) are obviously looking for an exit and that exit is at the point where both players are in the last year of their contracts so it’s probably more realistic than any point it’s been, “O’Neil told Stoke Sentinel.

“Both came here and signed very good contracts.

“In Peter’s (Etebo) case it’s two-and-a-half years on various loans. I think when it gets to that stage, in a player’s mind he’s already left the club even though he’s still contracted.

“We’ve got to find the best situation for us as a club but equally the players have to find the best situation for themselves as well. That’s an ongoing process. We’ve been through it before, I think in every window, but for us in terms of what we call the legacy contracts at the club, we’re in the last 12 months of that now.”

O’Neill has brought in three new signings, 21-year-old right-back, Harry Clarke, centre-half, Aden Flint and midfielder, Josh Laurent.
