Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen, has backed Asisat Oshoala to win the top scorer award at the ongoing 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

The nine-time African champions are gunning for a tenth title in Morocco, and they have the Barcelona star to lead the onslaught and the former Lille striker has backed the reigning championgs to win the title again.

The Falcons begin the defense of their ninth AWCON title on Monday with a tough matchup against the Banyana Banyana of South Africa. Nonetheless, Nigeria are the overwhelming favorites.

Ahead of the Falcons’ opener on Monday, Napoli striker Osimhen took to social media to support Oshoala and his other female counterparts.

“Super Falcons for the win and Asisat Oshoala for the highest Goalscorer,” The Eagles striker wrote beneath a tweet on Saturday.

Oshoala a four-time African Women’s Footballer of the Year finished the Primera Liga Iberdrola campaign as joint-top scorer with 20 goals in 19 appearances – despite missing two months of the season with injury.

The 27-year-old is Africa’s most decorated female footballer and is the first woman from the continent to claim Spain’s golden boot.

Oshoala has now scored 81 goals in 104 appearances for Barca, and has signed a deal to remain with the Spanish giants until the end of the 2023-24 campaign.

She joined the Spanish outfit from Chinese champions Dalian Quanjian in January 2019, initially on loan, before agreeing a permanent switch five months later.
