The Publisher of Street Journal Magazine, Mogaji ‘Bowale Oluwole Arisekola has expressed shock over the passing away of Chief (Mrs) Kemi Nelson, whose death was announced on Sunday.
The public affairs analyst and celebrity journalist in a statement he personally signed on Sunday described Mrs. Nelson’s death as “unfortunate, disheartening and sad”.
He said: “I learnt about her death with deep shock and grief. Mrs. Kemi Nelson gave her best in strengthening APC and in any struggle in life she believed in. She was unwavering in her quest to deepen the nation’s democracy through her diligence, dedication, resilience, loyalty and sacrifice.
“Truly a friend’s death is a great sorrow for all who truly loved her. I sincerely mourn her friendship. Since our paths crossed during the AC presidential campaign in 2006, a day will not pass without talking to each other on the social media. Kemi Nelson chatted with me till last week Friday.
“She was a committed All Progressives Congress member, an epitome of decency who contributed immensely to the development of the party in Lagos State and at national level. She was an embodiment of humility and selfless service. She will be greatly missed.”
Arisekola added: “She was not only cerebral, unassuming, bold and articulate, she was also a progressive-minded personality. The APC women leader was a successful corporate player, who opted for public service and worked for the good of her people till the last.
“Only few people knew she was indisposed, but were hoping and praying that she would come out stronger and better. We were shocked to hear of her death. It is a sad news. It evokes a deep feeling of loss and sadness. She died with a lot of ideas, zeal and vision that could help in building a better Nigeria.
“I urge her family members, Lagos State government, the broader APC fold and Nigerians to take solace in the fact that the late Mrs. Nelson contributed to the entrenchment of democracy in Nigeria through her participation in politics and her steadfastness.”
The statement noted: “Her advocacy for women’s rights, social justice and genuine development marked her out as a true progressive. She was such a sweet and great soul, beautiful outwardly and in character, a leader who believed the society can be reformed for the common good. She was one of the fruits of the struggle to ensure a better participation in politics. The best tribute the people of Lagos State can pay to her is to sustain her good work of touching the lives of the weak and poor. May Allah grant her Aljaanah fidarous.”
