The Anglican Bishop, Ondo Diocese, Rt. Rev. Stephen Oni, has charged the Ekiti State Governor-elect, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji to make the welfare of the residents of the state his priority, urging him to rule with the fear of God in his heart.

The Bishop described Oyebanji’s emergence as governor as timely, adding that God wanted to use him to lift Ekiti through provision of adequate security and legacy projects.

The Bishop made the admonition during the burial service for the late Oluyin of Iyin Ekiti, HRM Oba (Justice) Ademola Ajakaiye in Iyin- Ekiti over the weekend.

He further charged the late Ajakaiye’s children and family members to preserve the good name left by the late monarch while urging others to emulate his life of dedication to the service to God and humanity.

Bishop Oni further urged the Ekiti Governor-elect to be wary of any distraction that could derail the success of his administration, adding that many political leaders in the country are insensitive to the plight of the masses.

He said, “I want to congratulate the Governor-Elect on his victory at the polls, especially for the fact that God has decided to crown him at this period to use him for Ekiti development. Many things are wrong today in the polity from economic crisis to insecurity and infrastructural deficiency. For our incoming Governor to excel, he must remain steadfast without allowing any form of distraction to weigh him down”.

Speaking further, described Oba Ajakaiye as a great and passionate Ekiti leader who lived for humanity, submitting that the late monarch vacated his official quarters as a Judge for the usage of the pioneer Military Administrator in the State, Late Colonel Inua Bawa and moved to Iyin Ekiti when the state was created in 1996.

Dignitaries at the event included the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Otunba Niyi Adebayo, a former Minister of Works, Prince Dayo Adeyeye and Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi among others.
