All is now set for the family left behind by Ibadan-born Major-General Abdullahi Muraina (retd.) who passed away over the weekend in far-away Dubai.

According to a source close to the family who spoke with PMParrot, the deceased president of the Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered) who was buried on Sunday will be celebrated after the prayers by his family and admirers on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at the prestigious Jogor Center, Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State.

Our source also revealed “although, the children initially did not agree to the move to celebrate their late Dad, they felt he was too young to be so celebrated but they have since been convinced.

“In addition, General Muraina was a public figure who touched so many lives. I can tell you that both serving and retired army officers held him in high esteem because of the sacrifice he made personally to put smiles on several faces. He also did so much to maintain the name and integrity of the Nigerian Army.”

The late Abdullahi Muraina attended the Islamic Mission School, Odoye, Ibadan, for his primary education before proceeding to the Nigerian Military School, Zaria, for his secondary education between 1972 and 1976.

Between 1976 and 1978, he was at the Polytechnic Ibadan for his Advanced Level course. Then went to the University of Lagos for a BSC and the later University of Ilorin for a Master’s degree program.

Muraina held several positions, staff and instructional appointments. These included the Nigerian Army training and Assistance Group in The Gambia and served as Head of the Gambian National Army Finance and Records; a role he performed creditably in the quest for repositioning of that country’s Army’s Finance.

Amongst other honours that he held included the General Service Medal of Honour, Command Medal of Honour and Field Command Medal of Honour.

While in the service of the Nigerian Army, Muraina was decorated with Forces Service Star (FSS), Meritorious Service Star (MSS) Distinguished Service Star (DSS) and Grand Service Star (GSS).

Apart from being a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), Major General Muraina was a fellow, Certified National Accountants and Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria; member, Institute of Directors Nigeria and the National Institute being an alumnus of the prestigious National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru.

His pedigree as a thoroughbred, seasoned and tested professional manager and a military officer was never in doubt as he distinguished himself creditably in every assignment he was saddled with.

Muraina, 64, retired as Chief of Accounts and Budget, Nigerian Army Headquarters.
