Ekiti State’s Deputy Governor- Elect, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Christianah Afuye has challenged more women to be actively involved in politics to influence the system and better the lots of womenfolk in the society.

Chief Afuye threw up the challenge during an interview with newsmen in Ikere Ekiti.

The Deputy Governor-Elect who attributed her emergence as a co-flag bearer to God and support of party leaders, especially, the Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, charged women who are interested in party politics to be focused, determined and be self-disciplined.

The Deputy Governor-Elect said that gone were the days when women in politics were adjudged to be prostitutes and idle, stressing that the effort of Ekiti State First Lady, Erelu Bisi Fayemi has improved the lots of women in the political sphere of the state.

She stressed further that the appointment of women into political offices as influenced by Erelu Fayemi, under the leadership of Dr Kayode Fayemi has surpassed the 35% affirmative quota allotted women internationally. The Deputy Governor-Elect who is also the Okinlua of Ikere Ekiti, the head of all the princesses in the town, appreciated Erelu Fayemi for being a mother and role model for every woman in politics across the country.

Afuye described her boss, Mr Biodun Oyebanji as a humble, generous and

unassuming whom she had worked with as a State Women Leader and a member of the JKF2 Transition Committee.

She reiterated that Ekiti State under a visionary and pragmatic leader like Biodun Oyebanji, will witness unprecedented growth and development.

The Deputy Governor-Elect said she was not surprised with the outcome of the governorship election in the state as the candidature of her boss was acceptable to the generality of the people of Ekiti.

In his comments, the husband of the Deputy Governor-Elect, Mr Lawrence Afuye said he was not interested in politics but he allowed his wife because of the trust he has in her.

The 74 years old retired Sales Representative of a pharmaceutical company said his wife accords him due respect and as well takes good care of the home, which makes her a virtuous woman.

He said his wife’s new assignment would not have any negative impact on him and the family, adding that the state is greater than any individual or group.

In his own contribution, a former Deputy Governor of the state, Surveyor Abiodun Aluko, who is a political leader to the Deputy Governor-Elect described the selection of Chief Mrs Afuye as the running mate to Mr Biodun Oyebanji a reward for loyalty and consistency.

A friend of the family who was a former Senator, Anthony Adeniyi, said the background of the Deputy Governor-Elect, coupled with her antecedents and position in Ikere Ekiti propelled a huge votes for the party in the community.

The Ikere Ekiti born politician, urged the Deputy Governor-Elect to be relentless in her efforts to give the needed support to his principal in order to deliver the dividend of democracy to the people of Ekiti state.
