A 39-year-old man, Mfon Jeremiah, a resident of FIRRO Estate, off Adesan in Mowe area of Ogun State, has defiled his 13-year-old biological daughter.
Jeremiah who claimed he thought he was in a dream while sleeping with his daughter, also said he thought he was having an affair with his estranged wife
He added that he acted under a spell.
The incestuous act, the police said, left the minor with childhood pregnancy.
The police spokesperson in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who disclosed this yesterday, said the suspect was arrested after the estranged wife reported the incident at Mowe police divisional headquarters.
Oyeyemi, a Superintendent of Police (SP), said the girl’s mother discovered that her daughter was pregnant, and when she inquired, the girl told her that the father was responsible for it.
According to the police, detectives arrested the alleged incestuous father on the instruction of the Divisional Police Officer, Mowe Division, SP Folake Afeniforo.
He noted that the victim was taken to the hospital where she was confirmed to be four-month pregnant.
“On interrogation, the suspect confessed to being responsible for his daughter’s pregnancy but claimed to be under a spell when he did it.
“He informed the police that he dreamt that he was sleeping with his wife with whom he had been separated some time, only to discover that it was her daughter that he slept with,” Oyeyemi stated.
The Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, directed that the suspect be transferred to anti–human trafficking and child labour unit of the state Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and possible prosecution.
