Nigeria U23s were forced to a 1-1 draw by the home team in the second round first leg of an U23 AFCON qualifier.

Nigeria took the lead in Tanzania in the 29th minute, when captain, Success Makanjuola tucked away a penalty after Qudus Akanni was fouled inside the box.

The visitors carved out several other chances but failed to put them away.

Tanzania then chased the game in the second half and restored parity in the 74th minute, also from the penalty spot.

The return leg will be played a week today in Ibadan with the overall winners to play off with the winners between Guinea and Uganda for a place at the U23 AFCON in Morocco next year.

This tournament will serve as a qualifier for the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
