Abiodun’s Second Term Bid Receives Awujale, Ijebu Monarchs’ Support

The re-election bid of the governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun received a major boost on Thursday when Ijebu traditional council led by Awujale and Paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, endorsed it.

The Royal fathers took the decision after their meeting convened by the Council’s President, Oba Adetona, at his palace in Ijebu Ode, the Headquarters of Ijebu Ode Local Government Area.

The traditional rulers cited Abiodun’s exemplary performance in office in the last 42 months and the modified Obas and Chiefs laws of Ogun State 2021, which received the assent of the Governor as some of the reasons for backing him.

The traditional rulers announced the endorsement in a communique read by the Secretary of the Council, Obiri of Ayepe-Ijebu, Oba Adebisi Rosiji Okubanjo.

Oba Okubanjo said after reviewing happenings in Ijebuland in particular and Ogun State, the Council unanimously endorsed him to continue in office beyond 2023.

They identified ljebu-Ode-Epe dual carriage way; the Agro-Cargo Airport located in iperu-Remo; the reconstruction of Sagamu-Abeokuta Expressway; Kobape Housing Estate; the Ray-Power Road; llaro-Owode Road; Imasayi Ayetoro Road among others as projects executed by Abiodun-led administration.

The communique reads: “The Ijebu Traditional Council noted the governor’s pledge on the development of the deep seaport in Ogun Waterside Local Government and we encourage him to see to the actualization of the project”

Responding, Governor Abiodun thanked the monarchs for their support and declaration of their endorsement for his contuinuity in office.

Abiodun, who extolled the virtues as courageous and consistent monarch with upholding the truth and what would bring justice and development.

He described Oba Adetona as his father, recalling some of the good things he had benefitted personally from the traditional ruler.
