Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti has hailed the performance of Super Eagles attacker Victor Osimhen in the Partenopei’s 2-0 win at Sampdoria on Sunday night.
The former AS Roma’s gaffer said he was thrilled that the Nigeria international striker is improving in every aspects of the game including his movement and coordination with his teammates during games.
Osimhen scored the curtain raiser in the 19th minute through a sublime finish barely 13 minutes after Matteo Politano failed to score from the spot kick off Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa’s infringement.
“He has a way of staying on the field where he takes on all the responsibility and uses all the characteristics he needs in these games,” Spalletti said. “Lately, he is paying more attention to the movements to be coordinated with the whole team.
“There are many leaders who are silent too, but this is what it’s about.”
The coach also praised the rest of the squad for the fine display that led to the win after the disappointing 1-0 away loss to Inter Milan at the San Siro.
“I saw a very mature squad that was able to think carefully in a game that could’ve become complicated if we had been too emotional in our reaction. We used our heads, the result was never in doubt.”
Osimhen notched his 10th league goal of the season at Sampdoria and with that feat, he has now scored at least 10 goals in three straight seasons for Napoli in Serie A alone.
The win has taken Napoli seven points clear at the top of Serie A, ahead of second-placed Juventus, whom they face on Friday in what could be season’s game changer.
