The Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has stated that appreciable efforts must be made to elect only God-fearing leaders to pilot the affairs of the country during the forthcoming general elections on February 25 and March 11, 2023.

Obi gave the advice yesterday in continuation of the ongoing Biennial Conference of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) at the Bayelsa State Ecumenical Centre at Igbogene, Yenagoa.

The event was graced by the General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye; Bishop David Oyedepo of the Winners Chapel; Governors of Bayelsa and Delta states, Douye Diri and Ifeanyi Okowa respectively; former Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson and many prominent clerics across the country.

Obi urged Nigerians to elect only people with impeccable character who would not expend public funds on frivolities, stressing that public fund must be used to meet the needs of the common man. He added that the Church should fervently pray for the deliverance of Nigeria from the hands of the devil and his agents and that only the will of God should prevail.

The LP presidential candidate stated: “I want to ask for your prayers for Nigeria as we gather here. I will ask for prayer points and the prayer points as we go for the coming elections are that may God Almighty ensure that Nigerians elect somebody with character, somebody who is competent and somebody who will respect our religious rights.

Speaking to the congregation on the theme, ‘More than Conquerors’, Pastor Adeboye said: “To be a conqueror means God being our battle axe”, adding that Jesus’ victory is for the redeemed who must hold fast to their confessions. He emphasized further that “brotherly love, peace and unity” are needed to maintain the reality of being a conqueror. The clergy also said that “love is not a one-way drive, but two-way drive”, stressing that loving God as He loves the world attracts much blessings than envisaged.”

Oyedepo said: “Nothing compares to Divine presence; everything that troubles others, it trembles at God’s presence. When we succeed in carrying God’s presence, then we have come to be more than conquerors realm. And how do we get there? He that dwells in love dwells in God and God in him. We are in love with God when we are dwelling in God and God in us, so we carry His presence wherever we go. God was in the midst of Isreal, the sea saw them it fled. It can’t wait. Obstacles can’t wait and barriers can’t wait.”

The Vice-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, said he believed that with gathering of men of faith, Nigeria would bounce back again.

“I believe that a great Nigeria is coming forth and God alone will set that path according to His will. We need to pray as a sacrifice as a body, we must bear that burden for our nation because it is our duty, if we don’t who else will bear it? It is not just about the political class, it is about us, there are issues today and I must let you know two weeks from now, we are going to have elections but we must pray so that the elections will not be postponed,” he said.
