Former Napoli coach, Rafael Benitez has likened Nigeria international, Victor Osimhen to former Liverpool goal poacher Fernando Torres even as he tipped Napoli as title contender in this year’s UEFA Champions League (UCL).
Also, Arsenal midfielder Jorginho has said that he recommended the Nigerian ace for Napoli when contacted by the club’s sporting director.
“Osimhen reminds me of Torres; a very fast player with a strong header. But when we talk about Napoli, it’s not right to talk about a single player, the Azzurri’s work is a great team,” Benitez told Sky Sport.
He, however, added: “Spalletti is an experienced coach; he wins and does it well. In a city where football is very popular, he is doing it very well. I told him they would win the championship, he said to me: ‘No, let’s not talk about it for superstition’. But in the end, I think it will go like this.
“The team is strong, they have a lot of confidence, I think they can make a good course. I don’t know where they will be able to go, but they have skills, qualities and an experienced coach. So I think they can go all the way,” he added.
“I played against Osimhen; Giuntoli called me first to pick him up and asked me about him. I replied: ‘Get him now!’, Because he had turned our defenders’ heads, he is a young man who promises a lot,” said Jorginho.
