Three Dead After Rival Cult Groups’ Clash In Sagamu

Young men suspected to be cultists have overrun Sagamu, the headquarters of Sagamu Local Government Area, Ogun State, killing three persons.

The hoodlums who were said to be members of the Eiye and Aiye confraternities, renewed their supremacy battle, throwing caution into the wind.

The incident started on Tuesday and has spread to Friday,  leaving three persons dead while residents scampered for safety.

Our correspondent gathered that as of Saturday, the killing of three persons in the ongoing fracas has paralysed commercial activities in some parts of Sagamu.

It was further gathered that several other persons sustained injuries in the attack, forcing residents of the area to stay indoors.

A resident who pleaded anonymity said that one of the victims, an attendant at Awabat filling station in Ijokun, was shot dead on Friday night.

The resident said that the deceased, simply identified as Matey, was shot in the head by the hoodlums.

The source said, “We don’t know if he was a cultist, we don’t know what happened. We just saw that he was shot dead by cultists.

“He’s a petrol attendant at Awabat in Ijokun.”

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident.

Oyeyemi said three persons were killed in the incident.

He, however, disclosed that many of the cultists have been arrested by the police.

“Yes, three persons were killed in Sagamu by cultists. But we have arrested many of them.

“The Commissioner of Police has directed our tactical teams to be on standby.

“We have started trailing those involved and many are in custody. We are clamping them down, more will still be arrested,” Oyeyemi said.
