Napoli are still exploring the possibility of keeping their high profile striker, Victor Osimhen, for at least one more season amid claims and counter claims about an imminent departure of the Nigeria international striker from the Serie A champions this summer.
Scorer of 31 goals in all competitions last season including 26 to gift Napoli their first title since the Diego Maradona days in 1989/1990 season, Osimhen is currently the most-sought after striker in Europe.
A motley of top clubs including Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Manchester United reportedly are on the queue for his signature but no serious interest has materialized with the €150m asking price seen by many as being prohibitive.
Incidentally, his Serie A title-winning teammate, Salvatore Bagni at the weekend hinted that Osimhen was disposed to joining only Real Madrid or Manchester United.
“Of all the teams associated with him, for me, he would only go to Manchester United and Real Madrid,” the midfielder claimed.“ He’s not interested in the other teams.”
Yet this might even be a ruse after Tuttonapoli via Corriere del Mezzogiorno reported yesterday that Napoli has sought a fresh meeting with Osimhen and his team with the possibility of ‘contract renewal and farewell clause in a year’ among sundry issues.
Tuttonapoli reporter Redazione Tutto admitted that Osimhen is the only player that can determine where the pendulum would go even as he noted that his sale would bring a lot of money to reinvest.
“The Nigerian – barring twists and monstrous offers which at the moment are just rumours – should stay another year in the blue shirt with his contract renewed and the probable inclusion of a clause,” Tutto noted as per Corriere del Mezzogiorno .
“The parties will meet again shortly, but the intention is to continue. Napoli don’t want to be caught off guard even in the event of a possible farewell of the Nigerian attacker and that’s why they are in a hurry to know the intentions of the player and his agent.”
Still holidaying in Nigeria, Osimhen has yet to say anything categorical about his next move rather videos of his whistle stop appearances at different locations have been displayed across social media platforms.
