The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has said it will continue to sustain the availability of naira notes even as it warned against counterfeiting, hawking and spraying of the nation’s currency.
CBN Director of Corporate Communication Dr. Isa Abdulmumin who stated this at the CBN FAIR to drive financial inclusion and economic growth in Gombe urged Nigerians to see the naira as a critical symbol of national identity.
He assured the CBN will continue to ensure that the bank delivers on its core mandate of ensuring monetary and price stability.
Abdulmumin added that the Bank shall continually roll out proactive and innovative policies which would ensure that all economic sub-sectors receive the desired support.
According to him, the Fair is designed as a platform to interact with members of the public on the policies and strategic interventions of the Central bank of Nigeria for a sustainable economic development in Nigeria.
He said the bank, as a responsible and responsive corporate citizen, has demonstrated the most passionate commitment in supporting businesses and promoting diversification through an array of interventions in agriculture, health, manufacturing and other key sectors of the economy.
“Therefore, the objectives of this engagement are among others, to sensitize members of the public on how the Bank’s interventions can grow their businesses and contribute to Nigeria’s economy,” he said.
Abdullahi Baba Isah, representing the Branch Controller of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in Gombe said the CBN FAIR was aimed at highlighting the crucial role played by the CBN in shaping the Nigerian economy, ensuring financial stability, and fostering prosperity.
According to him, the FAIR will provide insight into the workings of the CBN, discussing challenges and exchanging knowledge and best practices.
“It showcased the transformative power of technology and digital advancements in the central banking domain, encouraging innovation and collaboration. Networking opportunities were available for professionals, policymakers, entrepreneurs, farmers, businessmen and promoting collective progress,” he said.
Abubakar Dauda, Permanent Secretary, Gombe State Ministry of Finance, Budgeting and Partners thanked the CBN for their efforts and encouraged them to further cascade the message to rural areas where online transfers are treated with skepticism.
He said the CBN has been a partner in the development of the state through its Anchor Borrowers programme and support funding for several hospitals in thes state.
