The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin has met with his counterparts in Osun and Ekiti States, Hon. Adeoye Stephen Aribasoye and Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun respectively in an effort to strengthen the bond among the legislative arm of government in the South West region.

Hon. Ogundoyin disclosed that there is need to do away with party affiliation and promote unity of purpose and ideas towards building a vibrant legislative institution in the region.

The Speaker disclosed this on his twitter handle during the week.

He noted that the purpose of his visit to the two states is to form a strong collaboration among state assemblies in the South West.

Ogundoyin added that the visit is to open a channel of communication that will lead to exchange of notes and cross fertilization of ideas among the region’s House of Assemblies.

His tweet about Ekiti State House of Assembly reads: “In furtherance of my resolve to strengthen the bond among all states legislatures in the South West, I also paid a courtesy call on the Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adeoye Stephen Aribasoye.

“I was accompanied to Ekiti State House of Assembly by the Speaker of Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Adewale Egbedun and some of my colleagues in Oyo Assembly.

“The need for us to put party affiliations aside and promote uniformity of purpose and ideas towards building a vibrant legislative institution in the Southwest was again the focal point of my address to my fellow legislators at the Ekiti State House of Assembly.

“I noted that before now there was no strong collaboration between State Assemblies in the South West hence my visit is meant to open a channel of communication that will lead to exchange of notes and cross fertilization of ideas.

“In the course of our discussions, it came to the fore that the immediate past Assemblies in the two States (Ekiti & Oyo) were able to pass the same number of Bills (97 each). This to me is a good omen which means we can all set or agree on a benchmark for legislative performance in the Southwest

“My visit afforded me the opportunity of observing the plenary of Ekiti State House of Assembly where the names of 21 Commissioner designates sent to the House by the Governor were confirmed.

“It was a worthwhile visit and experience,” the tweet concluded.

As regards his visit to the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Ogundoyin tweets, “In my quest to promote and exchange ideas, innovations and ensure a synergy of activities, I paid my first ever visit to the Osun State House of Assembly and particularly the Speaker of the State, Rt. Hon Adewale Egbedun who is another young Speaker below the age of 40.

“I harped on the need for us to ensure unity of purpose and cohesion amongst all the state lawmakers in our zone.

“Furthermore, I stressed the importance of a robust legislative agenda which will accelerate development in our zone.

“Oyo and Osun used to be one entity before the creation of Osun hence we share so many things in common, and I hope to use my visit as a platform to further cement our ties.

“Special thanks to the Osun State Governor, His Excellency, Sen Ademola Nurudeen Adeleke for receiving me in his office in Osogbo.”
