The Bola Tinubu administration will hold its second Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Monday having held the inaugural one almost one and a half months ago, August 28.
The Nation gathered, from a senior source within the administration on Sunday, October 15, said that the meeting, which had been preceded by public anticipation, is expected to many of the approvals granted by President Tinubu since the last time it convened.
Although there were no details on the planned meeting, it was gathered that it will be convening from about noon, expecting members to arrive ahead.
According to the source, who sought to be unnamed, among issues likely to be discussed will be those approvals he already granted some ministries all along the line.
The source said: “It is holding tomorrow, at least that’s the last I heard and likelihood of any change is really slim. Mr President will be presiding over the FEC for the second time. It should start by 12pm and ministers are expected to have arrived before that time.
“As to what might be on the agenda, I don’t know, but I suspect they will be ratifying some of the approvals already granted some ministries by Mr President. At least I can remember the in the last few days he approved some projects and policies for Works and FCT ministries”, he said.
The council is comprised of statutory members, led by the President, who is the Chairman of Council, and in his absence the Vice President.
Those expected to sit in council will include Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF); the National Security Adviser; the Governor of the Central Bank; the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation; Chief of Staff to the President, all the ministers; and some other executive principal officers who might have roles to play.
Vice President Kashim Shettima will, however, not be sitting in today’s meeting, having departed for China yesterday (Sunday), to represent President Tinubu at the 3rd Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
It was learnt that the government has settled for Monday for FEC meetings, a departure from what obtained under the previous administrations.
A regular FEC meetings during the Muhammadu Buhari held weekly on Wednesdays.
The source added: “In this dispensation, it was learnt that FEC will meet on Monday’s and might not be weekly to enable the ministers time to deliver on the assignments before them”, the official said.
Forty-five ministers were inaugurated on August 21. They had an inaugural FEC on August 28.
Three more ministers-designate – Balarabe Lawal (Ministry of Environment), Jamila Bio Ibrahim (Ministry of Yotuh) and Ayodele Olawande (Ministry of Youth) – will join the cabinet at its next meeting to bring the number to 48.
Many of the ministers had been up and running since their inauguration.
The works minster, Dave Umahi, who was mandated by the president to see for himself the state of the federal roads, as moved around the country and has given his report to the President.
He has also got the Presidential approval for the use of concrete to build federal roads.
Yesterday, the minister said the President had approved immediate interventions to make more than 260 critical roads motorable across the country.
Aviation and Aerospace Development Minister Festus Keyamo; Marine and Blue Economy Minister Adegboyega Oyetola, Minister of Solid Minerals Dele Alake, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs Dr. Betta Edu, Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, among others, have also been impactful.
