Be Apolitical While Discharging Your Duties, Don Urges Media Practitioners

Dr Bisi Olawuyi, a communication expert and senior lecturer at the University of Ibadan has urged media practitioners to be professional while discharging their duties as appointees of government.

He stated this during a media retreat organized for media appointees of government on Sunday in Jericho, Ibadan the capital city of Oyo State.

The University don further urged media appointees of government to keep good working relationship with journalists, and avoid churning out negative reports that can damage the image of their principals.

Dr. Olawuyi charged the media appointees not to be afraid of losing their jobs with the government and ensure to speak truth to power at all times while urging them to avoid pitfalls that could damage their professional career.

He added “a media aide is someone who has been chosen to assist a political leader and must align his vision with that of his principal. He must be abreast of information and must endeavor to contribute to the success of his boss”.

Speaking earlier in his welcome address, the convener, Adelabu Mandate Media Group, Comrade Femi Awogboro stated that the media retreat is an avenue for exchange of ideas, fostering of collaboration and provision of synergy between good governance and public representations of people in power and politics.

He added, “The role of media aides is timely and crucial. The focus of this parley is to delve into the intricacies of how media can play a pivotal role in shaping public perceptions and influencing political discourse. Through this, we aim to harness the power of the media to serve as a force for positive change in our society”.
