Owners Of Unregistered Vehicles, Motorcycles Now To Be Sanctioned By Oyebanji’s Govt

The Biodun Oyebanji-led government in Ekiti State has said that severe sanctions await owners of vehicles, tricycles and motorcycles found plying roads in the State without appropriate registration documents and valid drivers license in the coming year.

The State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Kehinde Ajobiewe who handed down the warning in Ado-Ekiti said the decision became necessary in view of the imminent threat posed by unregistered vehicles, tricycles and motorcycles to safety of road users and the overall security within the state.

Citing instances of illicit activities associated with unregistered vehicles, he stated that trucks, cars and motorcycles that are not road worthy would no longer be permitted to ply the roads because of the danger they pose to other road users.

According to the Commissioner, the enforcement exercise would commence early next year, adding that this was not to kill businesses but to put sanity into the transportation sector .

Mr. Ajobiewe urged the motorists and motorcyclists to renew their expired driving licenses and vehicle particulars promptly to avoid unpleasant situations.

He however stated that the State Government’s unwavering commitments to improve road safety and ensuring transport operators adhere strictly to the necessary regulations and highway codes.

The Commissioner said the massive ongoing road intervention projects across the State was an indication that the State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji was working in accordance with his six pillars of administration for the State’s development.
