Emotions ran positively high on Friday, December 21, 2023 when the newly installed Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye paid an unscheduled visit to the Ibadan home of one of his dearest mentors, Pastor (Dr) Johnson Adewuyi Adeniji.
The 99-year old cleric, according to a source close to the Soun, was overjoyed when the new A-Class monarch stormed his home with his entourage.
Dr Adeniji, it was gathered, was known as Amazing Fact during his active days and was a former President of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in the then Western Region of Nigeria.
He was also one of those who came up with the idea of setting up of the Seventh Day Adventist Hospital and the fast growing Babcock University.
Pastor Adeniji was also the Chaplain to the Adebayos, Oba Olaoye’s mother’s family.
While addressing the new monarch during the visit, the obviously elated retired but not tired cleric was quoted as saying “I knew from the moment that I got to know you as a child that you would become a king. In fact, I used to refer to you as ‘Atobatele’.
Dr Adeniji continued “Now that I have seen that God has kept his divine Promise over your life, I will now happily await my glorious call home.”
In his response, Oba Olaoye submitted, “Daddy, you are not going anywhere sir. Glorious days are here and you will be a witness to what God will do in our lives. We will continue to hold you in high-esteem sir.”
The new monarch of Ogbomosoland had on his entourage the Methodist Bishop of Ogbomoso Diocese, Rt Rev (Dr) David Ademola Moradeyo who also doubles as the Chairman, Ogbomoso Religious Interfaith Development Council, the Areago, the Iyalode of Ogbomoso and Abese and several others.
