Nigerian midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi, has resumed light training and could return to action before the international break.

The Super Eagles star has not played since featuring in the Foxes 2-0 win at Cardiff last December where he sustained a muscle injury that required surgery.

He missed the recent African Cup of Nations tournament due to the injury.

He was initially ruled out for three months but could step up his fitness at Seagrave next week, potentially making him available soon.

Leicester City coach, Enzo Maresca said at his press conference on Friday ahead of his side’s clash with QPR that he hopes to have Ndidi back by the time they head to Chelsea for the FA Cup quarter-final in a fortnight.

“Wilf (Ndidi) is still out, that’s it,” Maresca said.

“He already started to do some sessions with us. Part of the session, not entire.

“Hopefully, next week, he (Ndidi) can complete the sessions with us and that means he starts to be available. Next week, hopefully he (Ndidi) can finish sessions with us.

“As we know, he’s a very important player for us.”

The Nigerian has made 21 appearances, scoring twice and provided five assists this season.

The Italian coach also talked up the importance of the Nigerian midfielder to his English Championship table topping side.

Leicester City lead the EFL table with 78 points from 34 games – six ahead of their closest rivals Leed United and Ipswich Town.

“If he (Ndidi) can be back earlier than three months, it’s much better,”Maresca added.

“We’re trying to adapt players. It’s an important position because he (Ndidi) has to defend like a holding midfielder and attack as a pocket. When he’s not there, we need to find a player who defend like a holding midfielder. That’s why we use Ricky, because he’s a full-back. We know Wilf (Ndidi) is more of a holding midfielder than a pocket. But we try to help him.”
