Following the death of Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Mohood Olalekan Balogun, the Olubadan-in-Council has nominated His Royal Highness, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin as the next Olubadan.
Olubadan in Council which is the Traditional Kingmakers of Ibadanland agreed to name Oba Olakulehin as the 43rd Olubadan, being the Most Senior High Chief in the Balogun line of Olubadan Chieftaincy Ascension.
Oba Olakulehin was nominated by the Osi Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Gbadamosi Adebimpe.
It will be recalled that the state Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde has identified nomination as part of due process to the ascension of Olubadan stool.
According to the governor, “some people have kept talking about the Olubadan Chieftaincy System, saying it has got issues and all of that, but I said the Oba-in-Council are yet to make their nomination. When they make it, it will come to me and I will either say yes or no.”
Meanwhile, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin appeared at the Oja Oba official Palace of the Olubadan of Ibadanland in a greyish Sienna Bus on Friday where he joined High Chiefs.
His appearance cleared all doubts about his status and he was promptly nominated to become the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland by the Olubadan-in-Council.
It is believed that a letter to this effect will be sent to the governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde for confirmation of the nominated Olubadan-designate.
