Court Remands Mother, Son For Alleged N122m Property Theft

A mother Lola Muniratu Disu and her son, Ahmed Olasunkanmi Disu have been remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly stealing office property valued at over N122 million belonging to Uccas Resources Limited.

Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos ordered their remand following their arraignment by the police on a 14-count charge of stealing.

The prosecution alleged that Lola, Ahmed and others at large on June 25, 2021, at 16 Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, Magboro Bus Stop, Ikeja, conspired to steal the property belonging to Uccas Resources.

The duo were also alleged to have forged a court order with the inscription ‘possession taken by court order on June 25, 2021’ with the intent that it would be used against Uccas Resourcew and its Managing Director, Ukata Christian.

Some of the property stolen from different sections of the company include computers, office chairs and tables, air-conditioners, printers, scanners, copiers, industrial water filters, heaps of undistributed copies of cargo a publication, confidential documents, midgets, internet routers, 2.9kva generator, fans, etc.

The reception tables and drawers are valued at N650,000; reception chairs, N71,000; computer and printer, N861,000; HP 5 in-1 printer, scanner and copier, N73,000, among others all worth N122 million.

The offences are punishable under Section Section 390 (8)(c)&(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap. C38, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 (as amended).

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the allegations.

Justice Awogboro remanded them in prison pending the hearing and determination of their bail application and adjourned until May 29 for a hearing.
