Former Chief of Defence Staff, General Theophilus Danjuma (retd), has urged serving personnel to put an end to the killings across the country as soon as possible.

He emphasised that the military has no excuses for not restoring peace in the many troubled areas of the nation.

Danjuma made these remarks at the launch of a book titled Big Boots: Lessons from My Military Service by Major General Solomon Udounwa (retd) in Abuja on Tuesday.

The former defence chief, lamenting that insecurity remains the country’s greatest challenge, stressed that it must be addressed.

He said, “The number one problem today is security. We must end the violence and stop the killings happening in our country as soon as possible. Those of you who are still serving have no excuses. None.”

In response, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, stated that the military is well-positioned and working tirelessly to restore peace nationwide.

Musa further assured that the armed forces would continue to uphold the values of service, integrity, and honour, which are key to military tradition.

He said, “Let me also assure our distinguished chairman that the armed forces of Nigeria are prepared, willing, dedicated, and committed to ensuring we restore peace and security in our dear country.

“We shall not be deterred. Yes, there will be challenges, but that’s why we are here. I want to assure you that we have learned a lot from your record as very distinguished senior officers who have guided us over the years. We cannot afford to fail, and we will not fail.”
