PMParrot can authoritatively confirm that the fire incident at the University College Hospital, Ibadan reported as ‘breaking news’ by some online news platforms has been grossly overblown.
Our reporter who visited the scene on the Third Floor of the hospital informed that the ‘spark’ occurred when there was a power-surge.
An eye witness informed our reporter that “the room where the spark was recorded on the Third Floor is near the office Association of Resident Doctors. So, there were doctors there and they too can confirm that there really was nothing ‘breaking’ in the occurrence.
“I think it was one of the security guards on duty that first posted it online for whatever reason knowing that the inferno had been immediately curtailed and sorted out.
“It took only one bottle of fire extinguisher to quench it. Even, the Oyo State Fire Service folks that came did not do much because there wasn’t much to do.
“Many people on the same floor did not even know that anything happened except when they saw the fire truck.”
When contacted, the Chief Medical Director of the University, Professor Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo said, “I have nothing to say other than to give you images so that the whole world will know that it was overblown. I had to rush into the premises of UCH from the church.
“A spark at the change over in one of the rooms caught fire . The smoke alerted our security men who used fire extinguishers to quench it and also called the fire service.”
