Women have been implored to complement the efforts of their husbands in all ramifications for peaceful co-existence.
The words of admonition was given by the wife of the Executive Chairman of Ibadan Northwest Local Government, Alhaja Alirat Folashade Adepoju at a recent interactive meeting and health talk programme organized for women in the Local Government.
According to the Chairperson, the purpose of the meeting was to familiarise herself with the wives of the political functionaries and other women in the council area and also to discuss health related issues affecting women.
The Chairperson noted that the on-going recession in the country has called for collaborative efforts of husbands and wives in attending to certain responsibilities for the well being of the children. She emphasised that children are free gift from God hence the responsibilities lie on both parent to provide and give them the basic necessities of life like food, clothing and shelter for proper upbringing.
she reiterated that the economic downturn has changed the family dynamics, hence, the need for wives and mothers to give adequate supports to their husbands in maintaining a peaceful home.
Alhaja Adepoju futher enjoined women to take proper care of themselves by relaxing and going for regular body checkup to know their health status. She added that many women strove hard to make ends meet but never bother to look after themselves to enjoy the fruits of their labor. She affirmed that all these among others prompted her to include health talk on women related issues like self breast examination, family planning methods and menopause in the programme.
The Chairperson commended the leadership of His Excellency, Engr Oluwaseyi Abiodun Makinde and his amiable wife Engr (Mrs) Olufunke Makinde for their unwavering supports for women and children in their administration. Among which were poverty Alleviation programmes for widows and aged, youth empowerment and free medical care for pregnant women and children. She maintained that the free medical care for both pregnant women and children in the state has reduced children and maternal mortality rate drastically. The Chairperson also extend her profound gratitude to her husband, the Executive Chairman of the Local Government, Alh AbdulRahman Olanrewaju Adepoju for the level playing field given to women in the administration of the Local Government. She assured the Executive Chairman that the women will never betray the trust he had in them.
In her lecture, the Medical Officer of Health (M.O.H) Ibadan North West Local Government, Dr Olukorede Ekunne discussed on menopausal stage where she stressed that menopause is a stage in the life of all women which marks the end of reproductive years. The Doctor explained that the stage comes with a lot of symptoms like frequent sweat, fatigue, anxiety which make women to prepare ahead for the stage. She added that there are natural ways of reducing menopausal symptoms among which are intake of fruits and vegetables, foods with calciumB and vitamin D, regular exercise  and intake of water.The Medical Officer advised that if any abnormality is noticed in the body system during the stage,women should contact health care providers for immediate treatment.
Also, members of the medical team,Matron Adeleke Ayantoro and Matron Kehinde Abdulmojeed gave health talk on self breast examination and family planning methods respectively. The women were taught on regular self breast examination for early detection of lumps or fluids which could need urgent medical attention. Counselling on family planning, methods of family
planning,its importance to health and well being of the family were also given to the participants.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Director of Education,Mrs Titi Adeniran appreciated the initiatives of the chairperson for the interactive meeting and health talk. She stressed that it was an avenue for women in the Council area to brainstorm on how to support their husbands in their political careers. She further solicited for the unalloyed supports of the participants for the Chairperson and the Executive Chairman in making their visions for the Council come to reality.
In her vote of thanks, the women leader for the Council, Alhaja Kudirat appreciated the chairperson for the programme especially the health talk which will really assist the women to know more about their health status.She pleaded to the Chairperson on behalf of other women to organize more empowerment programs for windows and single mothers to complement their source of livelihood.
The programme which was held at the Council Secretariat Onireke had in attendance, the wife of the Vice Chairman, Mrs Folashade Omotosho, the Secretary Mrs Sarah Shobowale,Assistant Secretary Hajia Bola Oladeji, Councillors led by the leader of the House,Hon Nelson Gbemileke, Supervisors, Special  Assistants to the Executive Chairman and the wives of the Councillors.
Others were the Head of the Local Government Administration, Mrs Rachael Olabode, Acting HLGA Okebadan North LCDA, Alhaja Mujidat Ojewumi, Director of Education and Social Services, Mrs Titilola Adeniran, Director of Administration and General Services Mrs Folashade Olanrewaju, Deputy Director of Education and Social Services, Mr Sunday Ojo and women leaders across the eleven wards in the local government.
