A former governor of Ondo State, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, has officially resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party.

The former governor, who ruled the state between 2009 and 2016, made this known in a letter addressed to the party chairman in Ward 7 in Ondo West Local Government Area.

He said, “I am tendering my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), effective from April 10, 2026.”

Mimiko, who has largely been away from partisan politics, said in the resignation letter: “Speculations and inquiries about my membership status have made it necessary for me to clarify my position.

“As I have been somewhat distanced from party activities, I wish to put it on record that I am no longer a member of the PDP.”

The former governor said he made the decision “without animosity toward anyone.”

It was not officially stated at the time of this report whether the former governor will be joining the All Progressives Congress or the opposition African Democratic Congress.
