The governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, Alhaji Hazeem Gbolarumi, has mourned the death of veteran journalist, public relations expert and Abese Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oloye Lekan Alabi, describing his passing as a huge loss to Oyo State and the nation.
Oloye Lekan Alabi died on Saturday in Lagos at the age of 76 and was buried according to Muslim rites on Sunday.
Gbolarumi, in a statement issued on Sunday, said the late Alabi lived an exemplary life marked by excellence, integrity, and selfless service to humanity.
He described the deceased as one of Nigeria’s finest communication professionals whose contributions to journalism, public relations, and the preservation of Yoruba culture earned him widespread respect across the country.
The PDP governorship candidate noted that Alabi’s distinguished record of serving four former governors of Oyo State as press secretary underscored his professionalism, dedication, and unwavering commitment to public service.
According to him, the late elder statesman remained a bridge-builder, cultural ambassador, and proud son of Ibadan whose counsel and wealth of experience positively impacted many generations.
“With the passing of Oloye Lekan Alabi, Oyo State has lost a rare icon, an accomplished communicator and a respected custodian of our cultural heritage. His remarkable legacy of service, humility, and patriotism will continue to inspire generations to come,” Gbolarumi said.
He commiserated with the family of the deceased, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, the Olubadan-in-Council, Governor Seyi Makinde, and the entire people of Oyo State over the painful loss.
Gbolarumi prayed that Almighty Allah forgives the shortcomings of the late Oloye Lekan Alabi, grants him Aljanah Firdaus, and gives his family, friends, and associates the strength to bear the irreparable loss.
