Nigeria’s Super Falcons captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, has praised her teammates, coaching crew and Nigerian supporters after the team secured a place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) competition.
Nigeria’s route through the group was far from straightforward as they stumbled in their opening fixture, losing 3-2 to Malawi, before recovering with a narrow 1-0 win over Zambia.
The convincing victory over the Egyptians’ Cleopatras, in which six different players contributed goals, including Ajibade herself, ensured the team finished the group phase on a high.
Ajibade reacted to the team’s progress in a post shared on her official X handle, describing the qualification as the result of collective effort and determination.
The Paris Saint-Germain striker said the victory reflected the commitment of every member of the squad, as well as the technical crew, support staff and fans who stood behind the team.
“What a fight. We made it out of the group stage,” Ajibade wrote.
She added that the success belonged to everyone connected with the team.
“This win was about ALL of us: every player who stepped on that pitch, everyone in the squad pushing us on, to our crew, technical team, staff, and every single fan back home believing with us.”
The Super Falcons captain said teamwork had remained the driving force behind the team’s campaign.
“That’s what collective effort looks like. We fight for each other,” she said.
Looking ahead to the knockout stage, Ajibade expressed confidence as Nigeria prepares for its quarter-final fixture.
“Quarter-finals, here we come. The mission continues,” she wrote.
Nigeria defeated Egypt 6-2 in their final Group C fixture at WAFCON 2026 in Rabat on Wednesday 6 August, booking their place in the quarterfinals of the tournament.
