‘A Square’ Sport International is set to host a national Under-16 football tournament in Akure, Ondo State, from October 30 to November 10, in an initiative aimed at positively engaging Nigerian youths, promoting grassroots football, and discovering emerging football talents.
The tournament is sponsored by CFAS Sports Global Institute of Leadership Development and Management, under the leadership of Dr. M.A.O. Olanrewaju, with the event presented in collaboration with CFAS Sport International.
The competition will bring together young footballers and participating teams for a national Under-16 championship designed to provide a platform for players to develop their football skills, gain competitive experience, and attract the attention of coaches, scouts, and other stakeholders in the football industry.
According to Abimbola Oladimeji, National Organizing Secretary of ‘A Square’ Sport International, the tournament goes beyond competition for a trophy, as the organisers intend to use football as a vehicle for meaningful youth engagement and talent identification.
Oladimeji said the initiative is particularly focused on giving young people a productive environment where they can channel their energy into sport, develop discipline and teamwork, and pursue opportunities that could shape their future.
He noted that one of the major objectives of the tournament is to scout and identify promising young footballers at the grassroots level, giving talented players an opportunity to showcase their abilities before football stakeholders and potential talent scouts.
The organisers believe that Nigeria’s rich football potential can be strengthened by investing in competitions that discover and nurture talents from an early age. The Under-16 tournament is therefore expected to provide a competitive platform where young players can gain valuable match exposure while learning important lessons in discipline, teamwork, sportsmanship, and leadership.
The sponsorship by CFAS Sports Global Institute of Leadership Development and Management, under the leadership of Dr. M.A.O. Olanrewaju, underscores the importance the organisation places on youth development, leadership, and the use of sport as a tool for positive social impact.
With Akure, Ondo State, serving as the host location, the tournament is expected to generate excitement among young footballers, coaches, parents, football enthusiasts, and other stakeholders in the state and beyond.
