Nigeria’s Super Eagles striker, Terem Moffi, has completed a permanent move to Bundesliga club Hamburg from the French side, Nice on a permanent basis.
The skillful striker becomes Die Rothosen’s seventh signing of the summer transfer window and was handed the No. 9 shirt.
The 27-year-old striker leaves Nice after over three years on the books of the French club, in addition to a six-month loan spell spent for the latter half of last term at Portguese outfit Porto, for whom he made 15 competitive appearances.
Upon announcing the forward’s arrival, Hamburg’s board member for sport Kathleen Krüger said, “Terem is an excellent fit for our approach. His signing gives us greater depth and variability at center forward and increases our quality. His career brings outstanding experience at the international level, and he can pass that on to our young players.”
Moffi himself said, “Even though HSV spent a few years in the second division, the club is still a big name, and that is the case all over the world. When I told my father about the club’s interest, he immediately knew which club I was talking about and was really excited. For me, that was an exciting experience. That makes me even happier to now be part of the club and its history myself.”
Moffi returned 24 goals in 72 total appearances for Nice after joining in January 2023. His loan spell last campaign at Porto likewise bred two goals across 15 showings in all competitions.
Despite the inconsistent form shown in Portugal last term, Moffi arrives at the Red Shorts able to boast both European and international pedigree. The striker made seven total appearances in the UEFA Europa League last term for both Nice and Porto, notably scoring in the first leg of the latter’s round of 16 victory over VfB Stuttgart (4-1 agg). Moffi has also returned six goals over 23 senior caps for Nigeria to date.
HSV kick off their season on Monday night away at Verl in the DFB Cup first round. Their Bundesliga campaign begins at Borussia Dortmund on Saturday evening.
