Operatives of the Safer Highway Patrol have arrested a Nigerian Navy Lieutenant James Emmanuel and a 51-year-old driver, Felix Dickson, over the alleged transportation of illicit drugs along the East-West Road.

According to reports, the suspects were allegedly transporting five Ghana-Must-Go bags containing 248 moulds of suspected cannabis, popularly referred to as “Scottish Loud,” from Lagos to Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Reports indicate that Dickson, a native of the Owhe community in the Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State, told investigators that he had been contracted by the Navy Lieutenant, identified in one report as Lieutenant James Emmanuel, to convey the consignment to Port Harcourt.

The naval officer is reportedly serving at the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Ogun.

The suspects, vehicle, and recovered exhibits have reportedly been handed over to the Police Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) for further investigation.

Authorities are expected to establish the source of the suspected cannabis, its intended recipients, and the full circumstances surrounding the alleged trafficking operation.

The Nigerian Navy has not reacted to the incident as of the time of going to press.
