United States President, Donald Trump, has announced that CNN, MSNOW and Politico have been barred from White House coverage, accusing the media organisations of repeatedly publishing false reports about his administration.
Trump made the announcement in a post on X on Saturday, saying the restrictions would take effect immediately and suggesting that other media outlets could also be targeted.
He accused CNN, MSNOW and Politico of repeatedly reporting what he considers false information while covering his presidency, his administration and the United States.
Trump also criticised MSNOW, which he said recently changed its name from MSNBC, linking the change to what he described as declining viewership and credibility.
The president separately raised concerns about Politico’s receipt of an $8 million subscription from the United States government during the administration of former President Joe Biden. Trump described the payment as illegal and suggested that it could amount to corruption.
He tweeted, “I am proud to announce that, effective immediately, I am banning Fake News CNN, MSNOW (who recently changed their name from MSNBC due to lack of viewership and credibility!), and Politico (The recipients of an illegal and ridiculous $8 Million Dollar subscription, an All Time Record, directly from the United States Government, under Crooked Joe Biden, in order to keep them “alive.” Seems like corruption to me!), from the White House as a result of their constant “reporting” FAKE NEWS!

The latest move is not the first time Trump’s administration has restricted access for a major news organisation over its coverage. In February 2025, the White House blocked an Associated Press (AP) reporter from an event in the Oval Office after the news agency continued using “Gulf of Mexico” rather than Trump’s preferred “Gulf of America” in its reporting.
