The Oyo State chapter of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) has petitioned the Nigerian Police over alleged fraudulent activities and criminal conversion involving two former officials of the association and the alleged disappearance of N105 million.
The petition, addressed to the police through counsel representing the Oyo State chapter of RTEAN, named Mr. Adegoke Babatunde Oloyede, identified as a former financial secretary, and Mr. Adeyemi Idowu Olusola, identified as a former secretary of the association, as the persons allegedly involved.
According to the petition signed by Adenike A. Rufai (Esq), Babatunde Rufai (Esq) and Adekunle M. Rufai (Esq) of Rufai and Rufai & Co, a law firm, the two individuals allegedly received N105 million from a candidate contesting for political office in Oyo State for the purpose of purchasing tricycles for members of the association.
The petition alleged that the funds were received without authorisation from the association’s chairman and other executive members.
It further alleged that only N17 million was declared to the association, while the remaining N88 million was allegedly converted for personal use.
The association also alleged that preliminary investigations uncovered additional instances in which the two former officials allegedly collected various sums of money from members for the purchase of motorcycles but failed to account for the funds.
RTEAN, through its legal representatives, consequently urged the police to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the allegations and recover any funds found to have been unlawfully received or converted in the name of the association.
Meanwhile, RTEAN has issued a disclaimer concerning the two individuals, warning members of the public against conducting transactions with them on behalf of the association.
The association also stated that the two alleged personnel had been relieved of their respective positions as Financial Secretary and Secretary and should no longer be regarded as authorised representatives of RTEAN in those capacities.
The two alleged suspects were reportedly invited for questioning on Monday at the Oyo State police Headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan, as police investigations into the matter commenced.
The petition requested that the police deploy their investigators to examine the alleged financial transactions and other activities involving the two former officials.
