Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State made a surprise appearance on the runway at Lagos Fashion Week on Saturday, joining Nigerian fashion designer, Ugo Monye’s presentation.
The governor walked alongside other models in one of Monye’s collections, drawing loud cheers from guests at the event.
Photographs and videos shared on social media showed Sanwo-Olu strutting down the runway in the designer’s outfit, in an appearance that added an unexpected highlight to the fashion show.
Sanwo-Olu’s participation highlighted his administration’s support for the creative industry, particularly fashion, which contributes to the state’s cultural identity.
Reacting after the show, the governor took to his X handle to explain his appearance, describing it as a break from governance duties.
“I stepped away from the usual business of governance to walk the runway for the incredibly talented Ugo Monye at Lagos Fashion Week. Lagos continues to grow as a home for fashion, creativity and culture, and I am always happy to support the people driving this growth,” he wrote.
Lagos Fashion Week is an annual multi-day fashion event founded in 2011 by Omoyemi Akerele.
The platform showcases Nigerian and African designers to buyers, media and fashion enthusiasts.
