A yet-to-be-identified holidaymaker, who was travelling for the Eid-el-Kabir festival, has crushed two policemen to death in Oogi community in Ayedaade Local Government Area of Osun State.
It was gathered that the incident occurred on Gbongan/Osogbo Road on the eve of the celebration.
It was learnt that the policemen who were attached to Ode-Omu Police Station were en route to their home on a motorcycle when a Lexus car hit them.
A source in the community, who simply identified herself as Lola, said one of the policemen, Oluwatobiloba Odedina, a 28-year-old Lance Corporal, rode the bike while his colleague, Kehinde Adeleke, sat at the back on their way to Orile-Owu.
It was gathered that the holidaymaker who drove recklessly had attempted overtaking when he crushed them. Adeleke died instantly while Odedina, a father of two, died on the way to the hospital in Osogbo.
After the incident, the holidaymaker fled the scene, abandoning his car and the load in it for safety from mob attack.
A family source of the deceased officers lamented that the police authorities failed to do the needful on the arrest of the driver, burial or in paying a condolence visit to the dead because they were junior officers.
The Public Relation Officer of Police Command, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the incident, describing it as painful.
