A medical expert and Ekiti-born philanthropist, Dr Ademola Tosin Ojo, popularly known as DATO, has sympathised with the Ekiti State Government, farmers, and residents affected by recent flooding in parts of Ado-Ekiti.
The downpour, which began on Sunday and continued for several hours, rendered major roads and adjoining communities impassable, damaged sections of roads and bridges, and forced many motorists to abandon their vehicles and trek several kilometers home.
The flood affected several communities and reportedly damaged homes, businesses, crops, and other livelihoods. The state government has acknowledged the impact of the rainfall and urged residents to exercise caution.
In a statement issued by his media team, Ojo described the incident as unfortunate, expressing particular concern over losses suffered by farmers whose crops and agricultural investments were damaged.
He commiserated with Governor Biodun Oyebanji and affected residents and prayed for strength for those who suffered losses. He also called on the state government and relevant agencies to improve drainage and strengthen flood-prevention measures in vulnerable areas.
Ojo emphasised the need for sustainable action, such as improved drainage systems, environmental planning, and effective flood-management strategies, to mitigate the risk of future flooding.
He urged affected farmers to remain resilient and invited farmers across the state to attend his forthcoming Farmers Summit on October 22, 2026. According to the statement, the summit will bring farmers and agricultural stakeholders together to discuss ways to improve productivity and farmers’ welfare.
Participation is free, and farmers are encouraged to register, the statement said. Ojo reaffirmed his commitment to initiatives supporting farmers and Ekiti State’s development.
