The Nigerian Police, Jigawa State Command, has arrested a 27-year-old man, Abbas Ibrahim, for allegedly setting his elder brother, Basiru Shuaibu’s, residence ablaze in the Gwaram Local Government Area of the state.
The Command disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, by its Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam.
The incident occurred at about 11:30 p.m. on September 29, 2026, at Nassarawa village, Gwaram LGA.
According to the police, Ibrahim allegedly entered the residence of his elder brother, poured petrol inside his room, and set it on fire. The blaze left Shuaibu and his wife with serious burns.
The victims were taken by relatives to a traditional medicine practitioner for treatment. However, Shuaibu later died from the injuries sustained in the fire.
The police said Ibrahim, who claimed to be of unsound mind, was subsequently arrested at Sara town in Gwaram LGA.
The case is being investigated at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Dutse, while the suspect has since been arraigned in court for prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Tijjani Murtala, urged residents to remain calm and promptly report suspicious activities, threats, and disputes to the police or other relevant security agencies.
