IGR: Ogun House Challenges Council Chairmen

Local Government Councils and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Ogun State have been charged to take advantage of the massive infrastructural developments put in place by the Senator Ibikunle Amosun led administration  in some parts of the State to widen their revenue sources with a view to developing their councils’ economy.

Members of the State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs led by Hon Tunde Sanusi gave the charge during the 2018 budget assessment visit to Odeda and Abeokuta South Local Government Councils as well as Opeji, Ilugun, Abeokuta South West and Abeokuta South East LCDAs at the Councils’ Secretariats.

Sanusi stated that there was need for the Local Government and LCDA Chairmen to be more creative at ensuring increased revenue without putting unnecessary burden on the people, adding that the unprecedented development initiatives of the current government would assist to shore up the revenue of the Councils in the State.

Members of the Committee including the Minority Leader, Olawale Alausa, Adeyemi Harrisson, Akinpelu Aina and Rasaq Oduntan expressed that the projects encapsulated in the five cardinal programmes of the Rebuilding mission which had attracted more local and foreign investors would open more revenue frontiers for the councils to explore with a view to delivering more democratic dividends to the grassroot people.

Commending their agricultural programmes and other people oriented investments, they stressed the need for the provision of more social amenities at the grassroot level  to complement efforts of the State government towards meeting the yearnings of the rising population.

In their remarks, the Chairmen of Odeda and Abeokuta South Local Government  Councils, Semiu Lawal and Lukman Shonekan, as well as Mrs Mofoluke Soremekun of Ilugun LCDA, Musiliu Akindele of Opeji LCDA and their Abeokuta South West and South-East counterparts, Tajudeen Jimoh and Simisola Onaji reeled out the financial performances of their various councils and LCDAs, with an assurance that they will redouble their efforts  to further advance  the socio-economic transformation of their Council areas.

Meanwhile,  in accordance with Section 121 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), the Ogun State House of Assembly will on Tuesday, 28th November, 2018 play host to Governor Ibikunle Amosun as he presents the year 2019 Appropriation Bill to the State House of Assembly.

This was contained in a letter dated November 12, 2018 sent  to the Assembly read by the Governor as read by Speaker Suraju Ishola Adekunbi at the plenary.

The letter partly reads ” in accordance with the provision of Section 121 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I write to inform the Honourable House that I intend to present the Ogun State Year 2019 budget proposal to the State House of Assembly on Tuesday,  20th of November,  2018 at 10:00am”
