Day City People Magazine Honoured Ibadan Based Film Stars

Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State experienced yet another night of celebration of entertainment icons as City People Magazine honoured some veteran and upcoming actors in the Yoruba film industry within the state.

The event, which held at Yinka Ayefele’s Music House, Challenge on 13th November, 2018, had the Agbaakin Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oloye Lekan Alabi as the Chairman of the occasion while the Governorship candidate of the National Interest Party, NIP, Mrs Bolanle Ashabi Sarumi Aliyu was the special guest of honour.

In his welcome address, Dr Seye Kehinde, the Chairman of the City People Media Group explained why the group decided to appreciate some Ibadan based actors and actresses who have contributed immensely to the growth of the entertainment and film industry in Nigeria. He maintained that “their contribution cannot be overlooked as their industry is one of the few sectors that is giving the citizenry a reason to smile via the series of comical and life impacting films. This is the first of its kind in the city of Ibadan as we have done several awards of honour for the film stars in Lagos, Abuja and some other parts of Nigeria but today’s event is special to us being the first City People Magazine award for Ibadan based film stars. We’ll therefore continue to celebrate Ibadan based entertainers and actors for their immense contribution”, the Publisher noted.

The Cultural Ambassador of the Museum, Ile Ife and Chairman of the occasion, Oloye Lekan Alabi thanked the Publisher and the entire staff of City People Entertainment Magazine for the love and support shown towards Nigerian entertainers, both home and abroad. He maintained that the magazine outfit, has been one of the best soft sell entertainment magazines in the last two decades and they have helped many artistes in achieving their goals.

The Ibadan Chief said the group philosophy of helping the entertainers reach their goals has been the major reason for the group’s progress over the years.

Mrs Bolanle Sarumi-Aliyu appreciated the actors, especially those who have been contributing to the development of the movie industry in Nigeria in the last 40 years. She also appreciated the film stars for impacting knowledge to the new generation through their experience in theatre world. The beautiful and outspoken politician also thanked them for upholding the African culture through their talents.

Sarumi-Aliyu however used the opportunity to seek for the support of Oyo State Theatre Arts and Music Performing Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) ahead of the 2019 governorship election.

The Oyo State Governor of TAMPAN, Yeye Rose Odika in her remarks thanked Dr.Seye Kehinde for counting Ibadan based actors and actresses worthy of this prestigious honour bestowed on them. She thanked the group for remembering those that contributed and worked hard to raise the standard of the film industry while she also congratulated the awardees for the well deserved honour. Odika assured film lovers that she and the entire Oyo State actors will continue to give their best for pleasure of their viewers.

Roll Call of the awardees: Razak Olayiwola(Ojopagogo), Peju Ogunmola, Muyiwa Ademola, Babatunde Bangbode(Fokoko), Alhaji Agbolagade Akinpelu (Ogun Majek), Mistura Asunmo (alias Iya 2D),Dele Odule, Chief Samson Eluwole (Jinadu Ewele), Muyiwa Adegoke (Londoner), Ayobami Olabiyi, Niyi  Adebayo, Moji Afolayan, Adebayo Jelili, Eunice Bello, Feso Oyewole, Bolaji Asiwaju, Folake Aremu, Yomi Duro Ladipo, Wale Razak, Olayiwola Morufu, Kayode Olaiya (Aderupoko) were all awarded at the event .
