The Oyo State Police Command has paraded some suspected Oke-Ogun terrorists cum kidnappers, who were arrested by members of the Odua Peoples Congress (OPC) few weeks ago.
Also paraded alongside the suspects were eight suspected fraudsters and seven suspected armed robbers and criminal receivers.
The state Commissioner of Police, Joe Nwachukwu Enwonwu, while briefing journalists at the Command Headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan, said that the step was part of effort to reduce crime and criminalities in these ‘ember months’.
He disclosed that the suspected kidnappers who had been terrorizing the people of Kishi and Igbeti in Oke-Ogun area part of the state were arrested on the 15th of September, 2020 by SARS and other police tactical teams.
Enwonwu disclosed that five AK-49 riffles, 83 live ammunitions, eight magazines and nine cell phones with cash sum of N77,800 were recovered from the suspects, Mohammadu Major, male, 30 years, Shehu Aliu, male, 29 and Ibrahim Olawale, male, 22 years.
The suspected fraudsters, Oyejobi Kola, male, 32 years, Adisa Olayinka, male, 43 years, Rildwan Adebayo, male, 26 years, Damola Ademuyiwa, male, 25 years and Dada Adisa, male, 25 years. Others who were female, Romoke Oladipupo, 39 years, Adegbola Eniola, 29 years and Damiola Adejumo, 30 years, according to the Commissioner of Police, were arrested after they swindled investors to the tune of N2,700,000.
“Sometime in August, 2020, some members of a notorious gang of fraudsters who specialized in dwindling members of the public through money-doubling, Ponzi scheme stormed Igboho town and induced many unsuspecting members of the public to part with huge amount of money amounting to N2,700,000 by introducing them to a scheme they termed ‘Social Economic Development Programme’.
“The fraudsters, who operated under the name and style, Noble City Global Concept induced the unsuspecting member of the town to part with their money under the pretext that they would receive in multiple folds within 48 hours any amount they invested. However, as soon as they received money from the victims, they disappeared into thin air and all efforts to reach them proved abortive,” Enwonwu narrated.
Among other criminals paraded by the Oyo State Police Command were car snatchers and a gang of armed robbers terrorizing Saki town.
Divine Chinedu, male, 19 years and Oluwasola Adewumi, male, 34 years were arrested at Liberty Road, Oke-Ado area in Ibadan. The suspects were arrested after the former had succeeded in snatching a Ford Escape Jeep with registration number YAB 812 EB and sold to his receiver.
While Jimoh Yahaya, male, 27 years and Jimoh Lukman, male, 25 years, suspected robbers were arrested with guns, cutlasses and other dangerous weapons after they dispossessed Oladapo Mojeed, Taofeek Rasheed and Olusola Dare, residents of Gedu Estate, Saki of huge amount of money, cell phones and some other valuable items.
While charging the people of the state to be security conscious particularly in these ‘ember months’, said that all the aforementioned cases are indication of desperation of the criminals to make ill-gotten money at all cost.
CP Enwonwu, therefore, promised that the police will not rest on its oars to ensure that lives and properties of the people are protected before, during and after the yuletide period.
