Dr Kayode Fayemi’s government in Ekiti State has cautioned people in the State against transacting business with unverified and faceless individuals or organizations that are going about swindling innocent people under the guise of giving out juicy loans.
In a statement made available to newsmen in Ado Ekiti, the State Commissioner for Information and Values Orientation, Hon. Akin Omole
described the viral video of some women in the State that were allegedly swindled by a company operating under the name ‘Atlas Initiative Scheme’ as unfortunate and sad, stressing the need to avoid such unknown entities to avoid being scammed out of their hard-earned money.
Hon. Omole said that it is heartless for anybody to take advantage of the innocence of traders and artisans that are only trying to make ends meet.
Omole who expressed sympathy with the fraud victims, stressed that the issue was particularly lamentable because the State Government already facilitated several micro-credit structures that could be accessed by small and medium scale entrepreneurs through the State Microfinance and Enterprise Development Agency (MEDA) without fear of avoidable loss of their money.
Assuring that the State Government would however leave no stone unturned towards apprehending the suspected fraudsters, he said that relevant security agencies are already on their tail, emphasizing the Fayemi administration’s zero tolerance for criminal activities in the State.
The Commissioner also advised people in the State to make proper enquiries at the State Ministry of Trade and Industry for possible loans for small and medium scale businesses to avoid falling prey to scammers.
