How APC Swept Saturday’s Local Govt Elections In Ekiti

0

The All Progressive Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has won all the 35 chairmanship seats and 176 out of 177 councillorship seats in Saturday’s local government election in the state despite the low turnout of voters.

The election was held at all the 16 local government areas and the 19 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) of the state.

Announcing the election’s results, the Chairman of the Ekiti State Independent Electoral Commission (EKSIEC), Justice Babajide Aladejana stated that the APC won 176 out of the 177 councillorship seats available in the State.

He, however, stated that a bye election would be held at a later date in Erinjiyan Ward 4 in Ekiti West LGA where ballot boxes and electoral materials were reportedly burnt by hoodlums which led to the cancellation of election.

Speaking with PMParrot, the newly elected council chairmen in Isokan LCDA, Dr Olumide Fadipe, Sola Ogunsina of Ido/Osi Local Government and Mrs. Dupe Bakare of Irewolede LCDA stated that they will justify the reasons for their election into the exalted office.

Reacting, the Chairman of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in Ekiti State, Mr. Owoola Daramola further described the election as a sham and one sided.

Mr Ralph Adeyanju, the Ekiti State Publicity Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) said “The results of the election and the obvious low turnout of voters have confirmed the opposition’s fear that the result had been predetermined by the APC ruling party.

The reality in Nigeria today is that the APC cannot win any free and fair election in any state of Nigeria. In addition, that none of the five other political parties that took part in the council election was able to win a single councillorship position shows the desperation of the ruling party”.

Six political parties namely All Progressive Congress (APC), Action Alliance (AA), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Young Progressives Party (YPP), National Rescue Movement (NRM) and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) participated in the election.
