The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has graciously granted clubs a final date, Tuesday, March 21 to register for the upcoming league season.
The women’s league body had earlier given the 17-team Premier and Pro-League clubs a Friday, March 10 deadline to complete all the processes for registration.
The new Tuesday’s visa of opportunity for registration applies to both the Premier and Pro-League clubs.
The NWFL insists that the Saturday, March 25 date for the commencement of the 2016/17 league season still holds for the Premier league while the kick-off date for the Pro-league remains Saturday, April 08.
The NWFL board chairperson, Aisha Falode asked the clubs to use the final window date to register their respective clubs or forget about participating in the respective leagues for the upcoming season.
“As much as it’s regrettable that some clubs have failed to use the past opportunities to get their teams registered for the upcoming season against the collective agreement at the Congress the board still deems it fit to give the defaulting clubs up to Tuesday, March 21 to comply with the directive and have their respective clubs fully registered for the season.
“The new registration deadline – Tuesday, March 21 applies to the Premier and Pro-league clubs.
“Suffices to started clearly that the kick-off dates for the leagues – Premier and Pro-league remain unmoved.
“The Premier league will commence on Saturday, March 25 while the Pro-League kicks-off on Saturday, April 08.
“As at this moment only 10 out of 18 interested clubs have duly registered to participate in the upcoming league season.
“We state for the avoidance of doubt that the league will commence on the due dates with only the clubs that fully comply with the registration requirements.
“The board will not accommodate or entertain any club with incomplete or part payment to participate in the league, all payments (past and present) must be paid 100%.
The era of indefinite postpone of registration or league commencement date as a result of incomplete or non-registration is over we must put our foot down this around to instil discipline and strictness in our attitude to work,” said Falode to supersport.com.
The Premier clubs yet to formalise their registration are Nasarawa Amazons, Edo Queens, Capital City Doves, COD United Ladies, Abia Angels, FC Saadatu Kolo Amazons and FC Robo with outstanding payment of One Hundred Thousand Naira (N100, 000).
The season’s opening match will be between Sunshine Queens and Ibom Angels at the Akure Township Stadium.
The NWFL abridged league is expected to be concluded on or before July, 2017 in compliance with the directive of the football house, Nigeria Football Federation.
