The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III has expressed optimism that the current economic recession being experienced by Nigerians will end within the next six months.
Oba Adeyemi stated this while speaking with Parrot Xtra at the commissioning of a mosque built alongside a library constructed by the former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo as part of activities marking his 80th birthday in Abeokuta, the capital city of Ogun State recently.
The monarch explained that in recent times, Naira has started gaining strength against the dollar with the way the Central Bank has been pumping foreign exchange into the market so as to save the economy from total collapse.
He, however, advised Nigerians to learn to manage the resources available to them very well and avoid being extravagant in their spendings for the period of this economic downturn.
Speaking on the former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo’s 80th birthday, the Alaafin of Oyo described the celebrant as a rare gem who has done tremendously well for Nigeria and Nigerians both as a military Head of State and civilian president.
Other eminent personalities who paid glowing tributes to the former President included, the Olusin – Isanlu – Isin, Oba (Dr) Solomon Oluwagbenga Oloyede, the former Deputy Governor of Oyo State and Ambassador to Jordan, Alhaji Taofeek Oladejo Arapaja, the Chairman of National Population Commission (NPC), Alhaji Gbadamosi, the Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, (Edo & Delta States), Alhaji Daud Makanjuola Akinola.
They described Chief Olusegun Obasanjo as an icon, a political leader, mentor, fantastic father and an embodiment of knowledge whose life is worth emulating.
They commended him for building both the Mosque and the Church with his library, stressing that by doing that, he is not only promoting the two religions but also uniting Nigerians irrespective of their religion, tribe or language.
