Senator Abiola Ajimobi, the governor of Oyo State has commended the Adegoke Adelabu a.k.a Penkelemesi dynasty for continuing upholding the good legacy left behind by the late sage.
Governor Ajimobi gave the commendation at the Annual Memorial Prayer and Lecture held in honour of late Sir Adegoke Adelabu, who died 59 year ago at his family compound, Oke-Oluokun, Oke-Odo area of Ibadan.
The state governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Ismail Olalekan Ali, described the late Adegoke Adelabu as an honourable man, who left a good foundation and legacy behind.
Ajimobi noted that the contributions of Adegoke Adelabu towards the development of the South West and the country in general cannot be over emphasized.
He commended the family for taking keen interest in the principle and ideology of the late sage.
In his welcome address, Chairman, Adegoke Adelabu Foundation, Agbaakin Olubadan of Ibadanland, Chief Lekan Alabi, who doubled as the representative of the Olubadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji, opined that Sir Adegoke Adelabu deserves to be celebrated for his belief in equality among the people during his life time.
He noted that the foundation was launched in 2015 with the purpose of bringing people back to the memory lane as far as Adegoke Adelabu’s contributions to the great of nation is concerned. He added that people like Professor Akinwumi Ishola and Dr. Omololu Olunloyo are among the past guest lecturers.
However, Professor Sabitu Olagoke Ariyo of Shafaudeen In Islam Worldwide added more colours, beauty and value to the occasion, with his well prepared and qualitative but contextual materials for the lecture on how and what to do to change our political, social, economic and cultural atmosphere for better, through engaging the youth directly in governance and moral building in the society.
He warned those at the helms of affairs to be cautious of their steps, planning and programming, by making sure that the youth are engaged positively for the good and posterity of the nation.
Prof. Olagoke concluded that support from parents, governments at all levels; international communities as well as philanthropists for the youth will go a long way in making them contribute meaningfully to their communities and prevent them from becoming community liabilities.
Among notable members of the family in attendance were the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Chief Bayo Adelabu, Nurudeen Adejare Adelabu, the only surviving wife of Adegoke Adelabu, Mama Kosenatu Adelabu and many others.
